During our winter launch at St. Albans, one of our members successfully achieved their L1 certification, while another member aimed for L2 but was unable to complete the attempt due to a motor failure. The issue seemed to lie on an O-ring which allowed pressure to push the motor grains out the back of the rocket. We also believe part of the fault lies on the motor itself. We only later learned that the motor being used was recalled motor, which we confirmed with Wildman.
Our Recovery and Propulsion Subteam lead, Cisco Hadden, relaunched her L1 using an Aerotech Metalstorm motor, producing the striking sparkly effects seen in the photos. In addition, our Rocketry Project lead, Nico Moldovean, successfully relaunched his L1, capturing excellent onboard footage using a GoPro mounted in the nose cone of his rocket. It was an exciting day filled with learning and success!
